Who is Bummis?

Bummis began as the proverbial “kitchen table business”, started by 3 mothers who were using cloth diapers on their own babies and were inspired to create the products they themselves needed. That was way back in the 1980’s. It remained a home business until it grew too large to fit into any home! Since then, Bummis has grown and prospered while staying true to the vision that inspired its inception and the values that fueled its growth.

We believe that once parents see how easy it is to use cloth diapers, they will use them! So we focus on making it easy – through the products we design and distribute, the washing and using information we disseminate and the customer service we are so passionate about.

We also believe that the bottom line is not only about money and profit – but that it is also about the well being of our company and the people who work in it, our suppliers, our clients, and our community - both our local community and our industry. We believe that the way we do business matters, and that business can be an important vehicle for social change.

We live on a wonderful little cloth diapering planet here at Bummis that we and our employees have created. We have a lovely factory with lots of plants and natural light, and our offices are situated there as well. We also have two beautiful little stores in the Montreal area where we sell tons of cloth diapers, baby carriers and breastfeeding supplies. In addition we have a warehouse and a small staff in upstate NY, in the very scenic 1000 Islands. We all really enjoy working on our special little planet refuge at Bummis, and we have a great team - all of whom care passionately about what we do and how we do it.


My Experience:

Most of my cloth diapering has been with pocket diapers, one size in particular. As much as I love the convenience of a one size pocket diaper, they do not always fit the best on a tiny newborn. When I discovered Bummis Organic Cloth Diaper kits I was excited. Not only do these great kits come with all the certified organic prefold diapers you need to diaper your baby, but also come with everything else you will need.... Diaper covers in adorable prints, fleece liners made from recycled polyester, flushable liners (these are awesome, my husband loves them), a large heavy duty wetbag (can also be used as a hanging diaper pail) and a sample of cloth diaper safe diaper ointment.

When I contacted Bummis about trying one of their Organic Diaper Kits for review, I received superb costumer service. Shirley Murdock (one of Bummis owners) was so caring and helpful. She wanted to be sure I had the right size diapers to fit my new baby. I had concerns that the size small may be too big as I have tiny babies. Shirley offered to make half my kit with preemie prefold diapers and newborn covers. These have been great. I have been able to cloth diaper my baby right from the start.

I had my baby via c-section and so thought I would use disposable diapers for at least a month during my recovery time to not make additional laundry. What I found though was that my son's newborn disposable diapers were leaking so much that we were changing his clothes several times a day. He also developed a horrible raw and red bum from the diapers. When I finally switched him to the Bummis diapers I right away saw his rash improve and best of all...NO MORE LEAKS!

Bummis prefold diapers are so simple to use! No need for pins or stuffing. Simply fold diaper, place in cover and put on baby. Included in the Organic Diaper Kit is a helpful user guide and gives a world of information from cloth diaper folding techniques, wash and care instructions, and troubleshooting if problems arise. I recommend this kit for the cloth diaper newbie as well as the cloth diapering pro.
